OnÂ Monday,Â AshtonÂ RobertsÂ will play in theÂ ArkansasÂ All-Star Baseball GameÂ inÂ FayettevilleÂ atÂ Baum Stadium, and next year he will be playing college baseball atÂ Crowder JuniorÂ CollegeÂ inÂ Missouri.Â
BENTON â€” The Benton Panthers scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 5-5 tie Thursday and defeat Vilonia High School 10-5 in the first round of pool play in the Benton Summer High School Showcase Tournament at Panther Stadium.
To begin the sixth, junior Brooks Balisterri led off with a walk and later reached second on a wild pitch. He scored on a single by Carson Holloway, and one out later Grayson Chilton reached on a fielderâ€™s choice.
Back-to-back singles by Brant Stout and Coulton Lee scored Chilton, and a double by Garrison Roy scored another run.
BENTON â€” The Benton High School Summer baseball team got a taste of what it is like to play baseball for a living. With most of the team having played nearly five days straight, including shortstop Brooks Balisterri, and a bullpen and rotation burned up, it was up to pitcher Matthew Krikorian to last as long as possible in Tuesdayâ€™s game against Catholic High School.
Having already defeated North Little Rock 3-1 in the first game after Balisterri pitched a complete game, the Benton Panthers were able to hold off a 6th inning rally to defeat Catholic 8-7.
Benton McClendonâ€™s Appliance Senior Legion baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Little Rock Express 8-3 Monday night on the campus of UALR.
McClendonâ€™s scored two runs in the first, two in the second and four in the fourth, while Little Rock scored two runs in the second and one run in the third.
Ryne Besancon led off the first with a triple and Levon Steward reached on a fielderâ€™s choice. Steward later scored on a RBI double by Chase Southworth. After a fly out, Corky Welch singled to plate Southworth.
Conway scored four runs in the first inning as they defeated Benton High School 6-0 Sunday. Conway added a run in the fourth and fifth innings as they tallied eight hits in the game.
Benton also managed eight hits, including two from Justin Vincent and Grayson Chilton. Matthew Krikorian was 1-1 with a walk, Taylor Schmidt was 1-2 and Jordan Britton was 1-3. Garrison Roy was 1-3.
Benton McClendon's Appliance Senior Legion baseball team scored eight runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Sylvan Hills 16-12 Saturday afternoon.
In the eighth, Gene Dunkin led off with a single and Briar Sample reached on a walk. Colton Welch singled and Jacob Keeney followed with a two-run double.
Both Levon Steward and Austin Hicks hit RBI singles. Matt Frelin hit an RBI single, and Dunkin hit a two-run home run to give McClendon's a two-run lead.
The Everett GMC AA Legion baseball team lost to Hot Springs Village after Hot Springs scored seven runs in the first, one in the second, two in the fourth and seven in the fifth to win 17-7 Friday night.
Everett scored a run in the first and second innings, four in the fourth and one in the fifth.
In the first inning, Ryne Bewley was hit by a pitch and Hunter Wray walked to begin the inning. A wild pitch, an error and a ground out by Austin Kennedy trimmed Hot Spring Villageâ€™s lead to 7-1.
In a 7 -on- 7 tournament at Ouachita Baptist University, the Benton Panthers finished with a record of 5-3 over two days.
The Panthers lost to Lake Hamilton twice and to Shiloah Christian. On the first day, they defeated Sheridan 12-10, lost to Lake Hamilton 24-22, lost to Shiloah Christian 28-12 and defeated Kirk Academy, a school from Mississippi, 30-0.
On the second day, Benton lost to Lake Hamilton 28-10, but defeated Shiloah Christian 20-2, Camden 28-22 and Warren 12-8.
Pine Bluff defeated McClendonâ€™s Appliance 10-3 in seven innings Thursday night at Bernard Holland Park. Pine Bluff scored a run in the first, one in the second, one in the third, one in the fifth, five in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Benton scored a run in the third and two in the sixth. Pine Bluff had 10 runs on eight hits and McClendonâ€™s had three runs on seven hits.
In the first, Ryan Bewley reached on a walk and after a passed ball would later score on a ground out by Levon Steward.
The Benton Sport Shop Legion baseball team defeated Lake Hamilton Tuesday 12-7 at Lake Hamilton High School.
Benton scored seven runs in the first, four in the third and one in the fourth. Lake Hamilton scored a run in the first, three in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth.
Benton had 12 runs on seven hits with three errors and Lake Hamilton had seven runs on seven hits with just one error.
â€śThat first inning was key for us,â€ť manager Johnny Mitchell said. â€śTheir pitcher was throwing a lot of balls and that was what started the game.
