Tough day for Bryant golf

September 12, 2013

SHERWOOD – Bryant sophomore Drew Castleberry shot a 1-over 37 for the overall boys’ medalist, but the Hornets barely fell to North Little Rock at The Greens at North Hills in Sherwood on Monday. North Little Rock shot a 173 to Bryant’s 170.
“The pin placement had to be the hardest ones they had available,” Bryant Coach Keith Dale said of North Hills. “The greens were cut short, rolled and sanded that morning making a put stick next to impossible. The kids had a very hard time.”

Benton goes 3-1 in Spikefest

September 11, 2013

LITTLE ROCK – The Benton Lady Panthers competed in the Spikefest Tournament in Little Rock on Saturday and finished the day 3-1 between pool play and tournament matches. Benton defeated West Memphis 25-15 and 25-17 before splitting with Fort Smith Northside (20-25, 25-11). Because the Lady Panthers beat Northside by more point-wise, Benton was first in their pool.
In tournament play, Benton swept the Texas High Lady Tigers 25-16 and 25-17, but would end their day falling to Mount Saint Mary on its home court 14-25 and 23-25.

Jr. Panthers take down Sheridan to open season

September 6, 2013

The Benton Junior High Panthers got their first taste of life in new stadium and the outcome was as sparkling as their new home. The freshmen Panthers defeated Sheridan 21-12 and the Benton eight graders won 40-20.
The freshmen Panthers got off to an inauspicious start. Sheridan recovered an onside kick to open the game. The Benton defense stiffened, forcing Sheridan to line up to punt on fourth down. But a fake by McKinley Williams resulted in a 52 yard touchdown for the Yellowjackets. The two-point conversion try failed, but Sheridan led early 6-0.

August 29, 2013

BRYANT - The Bryant Hornets ended their 2012 season in disappointing fashion, falling to Cabot at home in the first round of the 7A state playoffs, 28-21. On Tuesday, the Hornets got back to work against someone other than themselves, battling the 7A State Champion Fayetteville and Pulaski Academy in benefit games.
With two 12-minute quarters against each, the Hornets worked on key issues and battled two good teams in doing so. First up was the Fayetteville Bulldogs. Coming off of a 2012 state title, the Bulldogs made the long trek to face Bryant and took advantage, outscoring Bryant 17-7.
