Cardinals end streak, take break

FOUNTAIN LAKE — The Harmony Grove Cardinals started the season on fire, winning four straight. Then a blizzard hit has the Cardinals shooting went cold and the club lost three straight before entering the Fountain Lake Invitational on Saturday.

Having already beaten the host Cobras by 29 earlier in the year in the Bill Gibbs Memorial, the Cardinals finally found the win column once more, snapping their slight skid with a 47-37 victory over the Fountain Lake.

Bryant girls dominate again

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Lady Hornet swim team dominated for their third consecutive victory, while the Hornets took second at the Thomas Holter Memorial Meet in North Little Rock last week. The Lady Hornets outdistanced second-place Cabot 569 to 396, as Mount St. Mary’s took third (359), North Little Rock fourth with 264 and Searcy rounded out the top five with 45 points.

Happy Holidays: Panthers beat Cabot for Classic

CABOT — After going into triple overtime, the Benton Panthers defeated the Cabot Panthers 75-72 on Saturday at the Cabot Pre-Holiday Classic. Benton Head Coach Dexter Hendrix said it was an earned team win.

“It’s a total team effort anytime you go into one overtime, especially three overtimes it takes a lot of guys,” Hendrix said. “I thought we had a lot of guys that made big plays and I was proud of our guys, they kept their fight their whole game.”

Tipton HOWLING for A-State

BRYANT — During his junior year at Bryant, utility baseball player Drew Tipton was placed into the outfield after playing his entire sophomore year in the infield. While some may have struggled with the new position, Tipton excelled.

“He is a very versatile player,” Bryant Head Coach Kirk Bock said. “Offensively, he can swing it. He brings a lot to the table.

“Last year, he was thrusted into an outfield role and he did a tremendous job.”

Panthers fall in OT

WHITE HALL – In a close game throughout, the Benton Panthers fell 61-59 to the White Hall Bulldogs on Tuesday night. It was the first game in which the Benton basketball team became a lot deeper as players from the 6A state runner-up football team played for the first time. Football and basketball and all-state junior guard Cason Maertens returned to the court, as did seniors Julius Lewis and Tyrin Hollis, and juniors Jeremiah Bowling and Hunter Howe.

But with the new faces on the court, the Panthers are still trying to get on the same page.

HASKELL — Head Coach Andy Brakebill and the Bauxite Miners entered Saturday’s final of the Bill Gibbs Memorial Tournament with one goal – stop Harmony Grove’s best players. Matched with a Harmony Grove Cardinal team just as athletic, fast and potent has itself, Bauxite dominated nearly every aspect of the game on its way to the 56-43 tournament win.

Dallas used the 3rd quarter to put this game out of reach. After a tightly contested first half the score was 14-7 in Dallas’ favor. Dallas was able to use an early second half turnover to score a 24 yard touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Cole Beasley. They used great field position to tack on 2 more touchdowns before the end of the 3rd quarter to make the score 35-7. Chicago made the game somewhat close thanks to a 21 point fourth quarter of their own, but it was too little, too late.
