Three Saline County men were arrested after they allegedly broke into a home and shot a man.
Lt. Kevin Russell, public information officer for the Benton Police Department, said this was not a random act of violence.
"There was a history of ongoing personal conflicts between all of the suspects and the victim, but nothing violent until this incident," he explained.
Officers responded to the 120 block of Lake Street in Benton for a report of shooting and found the victim with a gunshot wound in his side. Detectives learned that three men broke into the home and began fighting with the victim "and ultimately ended up shooting him." The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Russell said.
Later in the day, detectives gathered enough information to arrest Jonathan Edgin, 21, Kevin Hensley, 21, and Cornelius Wilson, 20. All three were charged with criminal attempt to commit capital murder, aggravated residential burglary, aggravated assault, second-degree battery, third-degree battery, unauthorized use of another person's property to facilitate a crime, and first-degree criminal mischief. I addition, Wilson was charged with resisting arrest.
As of press time, Edgin and Hensley are out of jail on a $25,000 bond, and Wilson remains in the Saline County jail under a $100,000 bond. All three are scheduled to appear in Benton District Court on Nov. 13.
"This is an ongoing investigation and more arrests could be forthcoming in the near future," Russell noted.
