Classical guitarist Peter Fletcher is returning to Herzfeld Library in Benton as part of a national tour that will culminate at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The artist has scheduled the local concert for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16. The program is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fletcher has performed numerous times at the Benton library and always has drawn an enthusiastic audience, library officials said.
Major works to be presented by Fletcher will include the Bach âChaconneâ and âSuite Compostelanaâ by Catalan composer Federico Mompou whose 115th anniversary is celebrated this year.
Fletcher also plans to perform music from âTerpsichoreâ by Michael Praetorius; âJesu Joy of Manâs Desiringâ by Bach; âVillanescaâ by Enrique Granados; two pieces from âMother Goose Suiteâ by Maurice Ravel; âLeyendaâ by Isaac AlbĂ©niz; and âCavatinaâ from the movie âThe Deer Hunterâ by Stanley Myers.
He will conclude the program with his own transcription of Paganiniâs âCaprice No. 24.â
Fletcherâs Saline County Library performance is part of a nationwide tour schedule. He has performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall every year since 2007, many times to a sold-out audience.
âWe are very pleased with Peter Fletcherâs return to the Saline County Library,â said Library Director Erin Waller. âHis library following grows every year. He brings an amazing talent.â
A classical guitarist since age 7, Fletcher is well known for recording music never before played on the classical guitar. He transcribes much of the music he plays.
In addition to his current release, âPeter Fletcher Plays Baroque Music for Guitar,â which was released on the Tower Hill Recordings label, he has five other albums and a future recording project â an all-Grieg album â to be released this fall.
His music will be available for purchase at the Benton event.
