Plans are under way for Amplify Christian Music Festival and event coordinators are saying it's going to be big.
Josh Turner, one of the creators of the festival, said "Saline County has never seen an event like this — from the size of the production to the well-known artists."
"It's a big deal," he said.
Attendance and parking will be free.
Major artists slated to perform include Shawn McDonald, Matthew West, David Crowder, Josh Wilson and others.
The festival is set for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 30 and 31. In addition to music from top Christian artists, the event will feature kid's activities, including bounce houses; displays of military vehicles and tanks; multiple apparel and food vendors; and more.
Although several large companies from outside the county offered their services, Turner said he is proud that the festival will be all local, with even the vendors coming from Saline County.
Major sponsors for the event include Everett Buick GMC, Ferguson's Furniture, B.R. McGinty, Parsons Tire and Service Inc., Minner Construction, Middlebrooks Electric Service, and Internal Medicine Associates of Benton.
The festival is a chance for area churches to join together, Turner said.
Included will be a demonstration from the Real Encounter BMX stunt team both nights and a large fireworks show on Saturday.
In addition to the word "Amplify" having a Christian connotation, Turner said the festival name also is meant to represent the community coming together for Christ.
"Together, we are louder," he said. "We are breaking barriers."
The event will be located on the grounds of Holland Chapel Baptist Church, 15523 Interstate 30 in Benton.
