The Central California State champions bounced
back from a loss in Game 1 of the Cal Ripken Major/60 World Series to defeat
the Southwest Regional champions in five innings.
Buchanan benefitted from some wild pitching from Benton, drawing 10 walks.
Buchanan finished with just five hits.
Leading the way was No. 9 hitter Blake Wells, who went 2-for-3 with a double
and two RBIs. Reese Wells chipped in going 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored, Marcus Mele went 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored and
Ryan Bray went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Buchanan was retired in order in the first inning, but put up a four-spot in
the second inning. It added two more runs in the third and fourth innings
and scored the crucial 10th run in the fifth inning, saving starting pitcher
from throwing the maximum amount of innings.
Gio Guzman went five innings for the complete-game effort. He gave up just
three hits and struck out seven. Because he only pitched five innings, he is
eligible to throw one inning in Buchanan’s next game, if needed. Pitchers can throw six innings total in consecutive games.
Buchanan won by a final score of 10-0.
