Benton Police Department releases app

June 10, 2014

The Benton Police Department is releasing a mobile cell phone app for residents.

Using the app, residents can learn in one place about the department and the services it provides.

"Citizens can gain an array of information that will empower them to fight crime in their communities," said Lt. Kevin Russell, Benton Police Department spokesperson.

With the app, residents can view inmates currently in jail, submit a photo or video tip anonymously and receive emergency messages and alerts from the Benton Police Department.

Residents also can see current news, a list of department contact, direction and maps to department facilities and information on sex offenders and missing children, Russell said.

The department also can send out important information to a specific area or neighborhood.

"This will allow for quick relay of pertinent crime information or hazardous situations to those that it could affect," he said.

The app is available for all Apple and Android-based operating systems for free.

The Jacksonville Police Department has a mobile app as well and the North Little Rock Police Department is set to release its app soon, Russell said.
