Benton tops Vilonia in slugfest

The Benton Panthers tallied 18 runs on 16 hits to defeat Vilonia 18-10 Monday night at home.

Benton scored nine runs in the second, seven in the fourth and two in the sixth. Vilonia scored a run in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth.

The Benton Panthers scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 9-1 lead.

Greg Pryor and Garrison Roy hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the inning and after a strikeout, Brooks Balisterri tripled. A home run by Ashton Roberts scored two more runs before Joseph Henry flew out.

A walk to Stuart Levy and a double by Carson Holloway put runners on second and third with two outs. An error allowed Matthew Krikorian to reach first and for both Levy and Holloway to score.

A triple by Pryor scored Krikorian and Roy reached again on a hit by pitch. A double by Taylor Schmidt scored two more runs.

Garrison Roy pitched four innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Jordan Horton faced nine batters and allowed four runs (none earned) on four hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Jacob Eakens pitched 1 1/3 inning allowing just one hit and Holloway pitched an inning of relief and allowed just one hit.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Benton scored four more runs.
Krikorian and Pryor both singled to lead off the inning. Two outs later, Balisterri would double to score Krikorian and moved Pryor to third. Roberts hit a two-run single to plate Pryor and Balisterri.

Walks to Henry and Levy loaded the bases for Holloway. His triple cleared the bases, scoring all three runs to give the Panthers a 14-6 lead. Krikorian reached on a fielder’s choice and Holloway scored to add to Benton’s lead.

Krikorian hit a two-run double of the bottom of the sixth inning for Benton’s final runs of the game.

Balisterri was 2-5 with two runs and a RBI. Roberts was 4-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored while Henry was 1-4 with two runs scored and a walk.

Levy was 0-1 with three runs scored and four walks. Krikorian was 2-5 with three RBIs.

Pryor was 3-5 with three runs and two RBIs and Roy was 1-3 with a run and a RBI. Schmidt was 1-4 with two RBIs.

The Panthers will play today against Little Rock McClellan beginning at 4:30 p.m.
