Benton wins tournament championship

Benton’s Carson Holloway pitched seven innings for the Panthers Saturday during their 10-4 win against Marion in the championship game of the Benton Summer High School Showcase Tournament. Holloway had eight strikeouts.

The Benton Panthers won 10-4 against Marion in Saturday’s championship game of the Benton Summer High School Showcase Tournament.
Carson Holloway started on the mound for Benton, pitching all seven innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on nine hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
The Panthers (12-1) made their way to the championship game Saturday by beating North Little Rock 5-3 Friday night.
Benton held Marion scoreless until the fourth inning when the Patriots scored three runs. The Panthers had scored four in the first and third, and then scored one of their own in the fourth to take a 9-3 lead.
Marion scored one in the sixth, and Benton scored one more in the bottom of the inning. However, Marion was unable to rally in the seventh inning as Benton held them scoreless and went on to earn their 12th win of the summer.
Jordan Britton batted 2 of 3, scoring once and driving in one run. Holloway was 1-2 with two RBIs and two walks.
Colton Lee also had two RBIs while batting 1-4 and scoring once. Garrison Roy (1-3) had two RBIs, too.Brant Stout (0-3) and Taylor Schmidt (1-3 with three runs) had one RBI apiece.
Against North Little Rock, Lee pitched six innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits with nine strikeouts and five walks. Holloway earned the save, pitching one inning with two strikeouts.
Both teams scored one run in the first, and Benton tacked another one one in the second to take a 2-1 lead, which they held until the sixth inning when North Little Rock scored two to take a 3-2 lead.
However, in the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers scored three runs to pull ahead 5-3 where it would stay after a scoreless seventh inning.
Schmidt was 2-3 with one RBI and a walk. Holloway (2-2) and Mathew Krikorian (1-3) each drove in a run, and Justin Vincent had one RBI while going 0-2 with two walks.
Jalon Britton scored twice while Jordan Britton scored once. Roy and Blake Nations also scored runs.
