BREAKING NEWS: Alexander officer being charged with manslaughter

January 24, 2013

An Alexander police officer has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, Saline County Prosecuting Attorney Ken Casady said.
Nancy Cummings is expected to make her first appearance in Benton District Court at 10 a.m. Friday. The arrest stems from the Sept. 8, 2012 shooting death of then 30-year-old Carleton Wallace of Bryant. Cummings claimed that she noticed Wallace walking along Brookwood St. with a pistol tucked into the waistband of his pants.
She then said Wallace threw the gun in a wooded area and while conducting a search, the service weapon she had been holding discharged. The Arkansas State Police began the investigation and turned over the file report to Casady in November.
