Two Benton residents have been arrested for connection to Thursday's armed robbery of First Security Bank in Benton, authorities said.
Bruce Echols, 52, was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with aggravated robbery, theft of property, and unauthorized use of another person's property to facilitate a crime. He also had a warrant for terroristic threatening.
His brother Terry Echols, 50, was also arrested on Saturday and charged with theft by receiving.
Lt. Kevin Russell, public information officer with the Benton Police Department, said these arrests were made in conjunction with a citizen tip and officers with the Bryant Police Department. He said the Bryant officers were following up on the information they received from the citizen and made a traffic stop on Terry Echols.
Reportedly it was during the Terry Echols interview that " detectives were able to ascertain information that his brother, Bruce Echols, was possibly involved in the bank robbery." Bruce Echols was then located and he reportedly confessed to robbing the First Security Bank on Military Road on Sept. 6.
"Detectives were able to recover a substantial amount of the stolen money and other evidence from the suspects at the time of arrest," Russell noted. "Other charges and arrests could be forthcoming as this investigation continues."
He added, "This arrest was possible due to the community partnership we have with observant citizens, along with the hard work of the officers and detectives of the Benton and Bryant police departments in conjunction with the FBI. Ever since the robbery, detectives with the Benton Police Department have been diligently working numerous leads, which ultimately culminated in these arrests."
Terry and Bruce Echols are currently being held in the Saline County jail awaiting a bond hearing in Benton District Court.
