BREAKING NEWS: Details released in crash that killed Bauxite teen

A mangled Volkswagen Beetle sits on the back of a tow truck following an accident Tuesday. The driver, Skylar McDonald, 15, of Bauxite was killed on North Sardis Road around 12:30 p.m. when her car was struck in the rear by a Honda Odyssey. McDonald died at the scene.

A Bauxite teen is dead following a two-vehicle accident on North Sardis Road in Saline County. The wreck occurred Tuesday around 12:26 p.m.

Skylar Leigh McDonald, 15, was pronounced dead at the scene by Kevin Cleghorn, deputy corner for Saline County, according to a report released Thursday by the Saline County Sheriff's Office.

McDonald, who was driving a green 2005 Volkswagen Beetle, was southbound on North Sardis Road where she lost control in a curve and entered the northbound lane, witness Meagan Wilson told police.

McDonald's vehicle was struck by a black 2005 Honda Odyssey on the rear passenger side before rotating clockwise 1.25 turns and coming to rest in a grassy area. Bonnie Nowlin was reported to be the driver of the Honda.

Lt. Ron Parson, Detective Ronnie Schwin, Lt. Jerry Morrison, Sgt. Wayne Bean and Deputy Calvin Reed, all with the Saline County Sheriff's Office, responded to the accident, along with firefighters from the Sardis Volunteer Fire Department.

Newcomb Towing and Recovery towed the two vehicles front he scene.

According to Sgt. Scott Courtney, spokesman for the sheriff's office, McDonald was driving with a hardship license.

McDonald was the daughter of Olean and Pia McDonald of Bauxite. She is survived by her parents; two brothers, Timothy Prophitt of Mabelvale and Olean McDonald Jr. of Bauxite; and three sisters, Hope Stewart of Clarksville, Jessica Steelman and Tiffany Mullins, both of Shannon Hills.

McDonald's funeral is set for 1 p.m. today at Ashby Funeral Home.
