NORTH LITTLE ROCK – It was a battle, but the West No. 2 seed Bryant Hornet boys soccer team came away with a 1-0 victory over host North Little Rock Charging Wildcats in the quarterfinals of the 7A State Tournament on Friday. With the Hornets’ win, Bryant (20-2-1) played the Central No. 1 seed Fort Smith Northside Grizzlies at 2 p.m. on Saturday to determine which team will play for the 7A State Tournament Championship.
Against North Little Rock, senior Justin Travis scored four minutes into the game for the contest’s only score.
“It wasn’t pretty, but I’ll take it,” Bryant Coach Jason Hay said. “We didn’t possess the ball well in the first half. We didn’t play on the ground, we didn’t get after it, we just looked like we hadn’t played in a week (which the Hornets hadn’t). North Little Rock was playing really direct.”
Though the Hornets’ play picked up after halftime, they still couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities.
“We came out in the second half and played much better,” Hay said. “We didn’t finish any of our shots on goal, which is not good, but a win’s a win.” The Bryant soccer girls (19-1-1) defeated Cabot 3-0 and faced Mount Saint Mary’s at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
