Bryant golf teams split against Russellville
The Russellville Cyclones defeated the Bryant Hornets’ golf team 157 to 160 on Thursday at Hurricane Creek Country Club. The Bryant junior varsity team shot a 173 for third place.
Junior Austin Harmon shot a match-best 3-under-par 33, but the rest of the Hornets didn’t give much help as the Cyclones took victory.
“Yesterday was a very bad match for us,” Bryant coach Keith Dale said. “Austin Harmon shot very well, but the rest of the team didn’t play very well.”
Harmon finished with five birdies, two bogeys and also had two pars.
Ethan Grace was the top Cyclones’ finisher at an even-par 36.
For the rest of the Hornets, junior Tyler Green shot a 5-over 41, freshman Nick Canale was 6-over, senior Gary Williamson 8-over, and sophomore Chase Thornton with a 14-over par.
For the Hornets’ junior varsity, junior Ashton Green shot a 4-over, 40, including a birdie and four pars. Freshman Nick Jenkins and junior Allen Humbard each shot 44’s for 8-over par.
The Bryant Lady Hornets’ golf team finished first at Hurricane Creek, shooting a 149. Only two players played for Russellville, so the Lady Cyclones did not qualify for a score.
Sophomore Savanna Cathey led the way for the Lady Hornets, shooting a 10-over-par 46, and sophomore Peyton Weaver wasn’t far behind with a 12-over 48.
