The Bryant Hornets boys and girls tennis team competed in the 7A Central conference tournament on Monday at Burns Park Tennis Center, but the Hornets could not advance a player to the semifinals held today.
In girls singles play, senior Callie Hogancamp defeated Meg Bumpers 6-3, 6-1 of Mount St. Mary’s in the first round, and sophomore Whitney Butler beat Emma Baird of Cabot 6-3, 6-2 in the first round as well.
Senior Allie Hogancamp and junior Sara Lequieu teamed up in the girls doubles to defeat Joseph and Ayers of North Little Rock 6-2, 7-5 in first round action. Also in first round double, seniors Kristen Dudley and Autumn Rouse lost 6-0, 6-2 to Madeline Whitacre and Annie Carter of Mount St. Mary’s.
“All the girls matches are so very difficult,” Bryant Coach Steve Wilson said. “We all had a chance to win each one of them, but we also had a chance to lose. Fortunately, so far, we’ve three out of four in the girls.
Callie Hogancamp lost to Conway’s Alex Taylor 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, and Butler lost 6-0, 6-0 to Little Rock Central’s Lindsey Liles.
In the girls doubles quarterfinals, Allie Hogancamp and Lequieu lost 6-1, 6-0 to Central’s Trinity Randolph and Madison Schallhorn.
In boys singles, junior Cade Howard got a bye for the first round, but then lost 6-0, 6-1 to Robbie Powell of Conway in the quarterfinals. Junior Nick Ross lost to Kiran Chakka 6-0, 6-0 in first round.
In boys doubles, junior Dalton Lane and Lane Ricardo lost 6-0, 6-1 to Hicks and Majors of Cabot, and sophomore Noah Hargis and junior Spencer Sullivan were beaten by Central’s Smallings and Adams 6-1, 6-2. Both boys doubles play were first-round losses.
