Clyde DeVoye Spann
Clyde DeVoye Spann, 91, of Benton, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 3. He was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church in Benton. He was born in Saline County on July 6, 1920, to Melvin and Euldene Spann. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years, Lorece James Spann, and a brother, Clarence Jr.
He leaves a son, Dr. Ron Spann and wife Debbie of Hot Springs; two granddaughters, Paige Beck and husband Brian of Johns Creek, Ga., and Ashli Francis and husban Shawn of Hugo, Okla.; one brother, Hubert Spann of Benton; one sister, Anneice Hogue and Tony of Benton; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Chandler, Cole, and Jake; and many friends including his best friend, Grace Marie Hinson.
Clyde was a shift foreman at Alcoa for 30-plus years and a World War II Navy veteran who served on four ships. He was an avid and champion golfer who walked the courses (mainly Longhills) until his legs gave out near the age of 80. He quit golf when he said he couldn’t shoot in the 70s anymore.
Funeral service is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Rick Grant. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.
Family visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Tommy Wright, Billy Teague, Harvey Brewer, Charles Hinson, Dwain Hairston, and Gerald Francis. Honorary pallbearers include Paul Pennington, Joe Hardin, Olen Cox, Gary Uselton, and many golfing buddies.
Family comments: Special thanks is extended to all of his doctors, caregivers and Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Benton, 211 S. Market St., Benton, AR 72015.
