Cox named top softball coach in state

Cox was named the 2014 Outstanding Coach of the Year at Tuesday's All-Star Game in Conway. Benton won the 2014 6A State Championship in dramatic fashion, downing Sheridan 4-2 with a late 3-run home run by freshman Breanna Langford.

Heidi Cox, head softball coach at Benton High School, has been named 2014 Outstanding Softball Coach of the Year by the Arkansas High School Coaches Association.

Native of Texarkana, Cox took the helm at Benton in the fall of 2011 and has since taken her team to two 6A State Championship games (2013 and '14), winning her first title this past season with a 4-2 win over Sheridan.
