Dale J. Ball, 79, beloved husband, father and brother, passed into eternal life on Nov. 8, 2013. He was born April 7, 1934, in Sardis, son of William L. Ball and Euna Hamilton Ball
He graduated from Bauxite High School, and received a B.S.B.A. from University of Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army in New Jersey from 1953 to 1955. He retired in 1999 after 38 years with International Harvester Credit Corp.-Navistar and moved back to Memphis, Tenn.
Dale loved to fish, golf and was an excellent cook, barbecuer and was best at frying fish and hushpuppies, as his children can attest. He married his "sweetheart," Mary Kay (Koch) , on Feb. 24, 1978, in Memphis. They met in 1967 and worked together at IHCC. They moved to Omaha, Neb., after they married, then moved to Kansas City, Mo., and on to Dallas, where Dale became a huge Cowboys fan.
Dale converted to Catholicism on Nov. 7, 1987, at Sacred Heart Church, when they renewed their marriage vows. After moving back to Memphis in 1999, they joined Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, and were active members of the Merrymakers, and members of the Fun Group at Holy Spirit Church. Dale was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 7449 in Germantown, Tenn.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters, Debra Ball and Dana Reynolds.
He leaves his wife of 35 years, Mary Kay Ball; his sons, Lee, Gary and Greg Turnage; and his daughters, Gerri T. Bailey and Daren McDowell; and a brother, Bob Ball of Bismarck; 15 grandchildren; and his two best friends, his Westies, Gus and Bella, who will miss him terribly.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16. Visitation is set for 10 a.m. and the Funeral Mass is set for 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Germantown, Tenn., with a reception following .
