Diana Lynn “DeeDee” Schalk

Diana Lynn “DeeDee” Schalk, 49, of Benton passed away with her family by her side on May 2, 2013.  DeeDee was born in St. Louis on June 28, 1963, to Ira and Margaret Leake.  She grew up in Franklin County, Miussouri; graduated from R-16 Strain-Japan; Sullivan High School; and East Central College, Union, Missouri.  DeeDee was united in marriage to Marty Schalk on October 11, 1986 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald, Missouri.  She, Marty and Caleb moved to Benton in 1992.
DeeDee’s family was the center of her life and when asked about her hobbies, she said they were always whatever her husband, son and daughter wanted to do; band, soccer, fishing and going to the lake. Before retiring she worked as administrative assistant to the Bryant Special Education Supervisor.  She was an active member of Friends in Christ Lutheran Church and was known for her enthusiasm, strong faith, and always positive view of life.
DeeDee is survived by her loving husband, Marty; son Caleb; daughter, Callie; her mother, Margaret Leake; sisters, Pam Ray and Alison Ebers, brothers; Rick Leake and Jay Leake and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 4, at Christ Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Dial and Dudley Funeral Home, 4212 Highway 5 N, Bryant. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Friends in Christ Lutheran Church designated for the Schalk Children Educational Fund.
