Emmit Elbert Kizzia

Emmit Elbert Kizzia, 90, of Calico Rock passed away July 16. He was born June 27, 1922, in Murfreesboro to William Fletcher and Jessie Mae McMillen Kizzia.
He married Martha Sue Harrelson and the couple had three children.
In 1940 Mr. Kizzia attended Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, served in the U.S. Navy and received Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1948. He was a teacher and head football, basketball and track coach at Benton High School from 1948 to 1959.
He received his master's degree from George Peabody College fin Nashville, Tenn. In 1959 he completed 32 hours at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro to earn his public school administration degree. He also served as principal for Dierks and Hazen high schools. He completed his education career as superintendent of Calico Rock School in1982. He was a member of the NEA, AEA and Arkansas Association of Administrators; was an officer of the District Athletic Association, a member of the American Legion, and a Sunday School teacher. He served on the Calico Rock City Council and was a member of the Lions Club. He was a member of the Calico Rock Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Suzanne; a son, Chip; and a brother, Fletcher Kizzia.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Martha Sue Kizzia, and a daughter, Martha Alice Kizzia, both of Calico Rock.
Funeral service was held Thursday, July 19, at the Calico Rock Baptist Church. Arrangements were by Eddie's Family Funeral Home
Memorials may be made to the Coach Elbert Kizzia Scholarship Fund at Benton High School in Benton.
Serving as pallbearers were Jerry Watson, Fred Johnson, Sonny Bowers, Roy Teal, Tommy Marchant and George Mayfield. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Still, Tommy Whiteside, Carville Fitzhugh and C.T. Luke
