Evelyn Elizabeth Burks Johnson, 89, of Benton, went to be with the Lord on June 26.Â She was born on October 11, 1921, in Benton to the late Charlie R. Burks and Etta Elizabeth Bray Burks.Â She was of the Church of Christ faith.Â Evelyn was a licensed practical nurse, retiring from the state of California and served in the Womenâ€™s Army Auxiliary Corp of the United States Army.Â She loved to fish and garden and take care of friends and relatives when needed.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford P. Johnson, son, James Perry Johnson, brothers, Roscoe Burks and James Olin Burks and sister, Alma Burks Rogers.
Survivors are grandchildren, Eric Johnson and Shannon Johnson, sisters, Burla Love of Hot Springs, Dorothy Newport and husband, Ron and Mari Kidd all of Jacksonville, brother Charles Burks and wife, Gale of Benton, many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Pat McQuire.
A graveside service by Ashby Funeral Home will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Rosemont Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled.
