Frederic Earnest Davis
Frederic Earnest Davis, 91, of Benton, passed away April 26. He was born in Benton on May 6, 1920 and raised in the Mt. Olive Community, Fred was the son of Lonnie Graydon (Doc) Davis and Alice Levillain Davis. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC Camp) at St. Charles and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Fred worked for ALCOA for 43 years in the mining division. He was married to Marcena Wages Cockrum for 43 years. After her death in 1982, Fred married Lorene Hand Mathews and they celebrated their twenty-seventh anniversary last September. He loved to work in the garden and Crappie fishing was his passion in the spring and fall on Lake DeGray. Fred was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church of Benton where he was an active member until recent illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcena, son, Phil Davis, grandsons, Jimie Ray Cockrum, Dain Davis, and Lynn Cockrum, daughter in law,Betty Greene Cockrum, brothers, Brooks Davis, Charles Davis, Victor Davis, Raymond Davis, Clyde Davis, sister, Nadine Timoneri and special niece, Hazel Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene Davis of Benton, sons, Jimie D. Cockrum of Olive Branch, Miss.; Leonard Cockrum and wife, Betty Kingman Cockrum of Plano, Texas, Larry Davis and wife, Vicki of Little Rock, daughters, Madolyn Wiley of Benton, Kathy Carlisle and husband, Bruce of Benton, stepchildren, Cheryl Moore and husband, Ed of Pleasant Hill, Cal.; Marty Mathews and wife, Joni of San Jose, Cal., Mark Mathews and wife, Judy of San Jose, Cal., Craig Mathews and wife, Cheryl of Broken Arrow, Okla., brother, Donald D. Davis and wife, Cora Ellen of Benton, sisters, Virginia Bennings of Sheridan and Shirley Gregory of Benton. Fred was blessed with nineteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Church services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Trinity Baptist Church in Benton with Bro. Mike Titsworth officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. Arrangements by Ashby Funeral Home
Visitation will be 6- 8 p.m. Friday, April 27 at Ashbys,
