George Edward “Ed” Talbert

George Edward “Ed” Talbert, 86, of Benton, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Saline Memorial Hospice in Bryant. He was born August 24, 1924 to Walter Edward and Bertha Inez (Sorrells) Talbert. He retired from Southwestern Bell telephone company in 1986 after 39 years of service. He was a member of Lifeline Baptist Church, The Gideons International, and was a Mason. He was a Navy veteran having served in WWII and the Korean War; sailing around the world twice.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Norma Jean (Smith) Talbert, the mother of his children.

He is survived by his second wife, Loretta Talbert, originally of North Carolina. Daughters; Kathleen Jennings and her husband, David of Monticello and Jeanine Hendrix and her husband, Randy of Sheridan. Sons; Jimmy Talbert of Little Rock, David Talbert and his wife, Dixie of Jacksonville and Mark Talbert of Benton. He is also survived by two sisters Melvadeen Friday of Blytheville, Inez Hathaway of Fort Smith, one brother Lawrence Talbert of Chandler, Texas, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to Lifeline Baptist Church, The Gideon’s International or Saline Memorial Hospice.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, at Lifeline Baptist Church directed by Brother Jeff Dial and Mr. Talbert’s son, Brother David Talbert. Interment to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209 (501) 455-5800.
