The Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Perryville 4-2 in the first round of the 3A State Tournament at Prescott High School Friday afternoon.
In the seventh, Morgan Ramsey reached on a one-out walk and with two outs senior Kaylee Allen hit a line drive up the middle to move Ramsey to third. Macy Coffee walked to load the bases and two runs would score on a hit by Stephanie Parins.
Molly White gave Harmony Grove a two-run lead when she single home Coffee.
â€śIt was an excellent game,â€ť coach Sammi Massey said. â€śEverybody had a great attitude and had great spirits. Our seniors played a huge role and everybody was focus and ready to play.
â€śIt was very fun to watch.â€ť
Perryville scored their two runs in the fifth. Parins pitched all seven innings, allowing just five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
â€śShe pitched an excellent game,â€ť Massey said. â€śShe played a great game but it really was a total team effort. Iâ€™m really proud of my seniors, espcially Kaylle who it got it started with a hit.â€ť
Harmony Grove scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning, Tori Simmons reached on a RBI walk. Coffee reached on an error to begin the inning, followed by a walk to Parins and a second error that allowed White to reach first.
Allen was 1-4, Coffee was 1-3, Parins was 2-3 and White was 1-4. Aliyah Kennedy was 1-3.
â€śPerryville had a very good pitcher so our hits were far and few between,â€ť Massey said. â€śBut we got them when we needed them.â€ť
Laura Britt had nine putouts for Harmony Grove, including a double play.
â€śShe really stood out defensively,â€ť Massey said.
The Lady Cardinals will play host-team Prescott today at noon after the Lady Curly Wolves beat Corning 4-0 in the first round.
