Harvey Odell Puryear

Harvey Odell Puryear, 70, of Haskell passed away peacefully on June 26, 2014, with his family by his side, after a long battle to survive as a stroke victim.
Odell was born July 6, 1943, to Vernard and Laura Puryear of Bryant.
He was preceded in death by his father, V.H. Puryear; his beloved mother, Anna Laura Elizabeth “Sister Baby Balch” Puryear; and a devoted brother, Steve Puryear.
He is survived by his sister, Sarah Panni and brother in-law, Bobby Panni; his former wife and caregiver, Becky Turk; a son, Terry Odell Puryear and daughter-in-law, Teresa Puryear; three daughters, Christina Simmering Holcombe, Nicole Simmering Hollingsworth and Pamela Simmering Hackler; three granddaughters, Misty Edwards, Carissa Bradshaw and Emalee Faith Worden; four grandsons, Dylan Puryear, Tadd Simmering, Blayne Simmering and Chase Bradshaw; one great-granddaughter; five great-grandsons; two nieces; three nephews; four great-nieces; and one great-nephew.
He was the most awesome father and granddaddy anyone could ask for.
Odell served in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division, which was known as the “Screaming Eagles.”
He was a truck driver by trade and enjoyed hauling heavy equipment. There was no job he wouldn’t tackle and he was more than willing to help his neighbor.
Odell enjoyed riding four-wheelers with his buddies, camping and boating. At Christmas he always worked hard to have a light display in the yard for kids to enjoy.
Odell had many good friends and was a good friend to many. He was loved deeply and will be deeply missed.
A private memorial service was held.
