Horace H. Rutherford Jr.

Horace H. Rutherford Jr., 83, of Bryant, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 14, after a lengthy illness.  He was born May 9, 1928 in Fairview, to Horace H. Rutherford Sr. and Maybelle Gilliam Rutherford.  Mr. Rutherford is a veteran of World War II, where he served in the South Pacific.  He was a builder and general contractor almost all of his life.  When healthy, he served in many positions in the church and performed numerous community services and volunteer work.  Mr. Rutherford was a member of the Shriner’s Temple and an active Mason.  He never met a stranger and loved everyone he met.  Mr. Rutherford was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Gertrude Pearson.
 
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann Burris Rutherford of Bryant; two daughters, Dianne Pittman and husband, Raymond, of Bryant and Debbie Atkins and husband, Ricky, of Lonoke; five grandchildren, Angela Douglas and husband, Shawn of Bryant, Tiffany Atkins of Lonoke, Crystal Ingle and husband, Brooks of Lonoke, Brian Pittman of Benton and Brittany Pittman of Bryant; eight great-grandchildren, Kyle and Mikayla Douglas, Alexx and Carson DeVinney, Chloe, Jaxon and Ryder Ingle and Bryley McClellan and a host of family and friends.
 
A celebration service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in the Chapel at Ashby’s and burial at Pine Crest Memorial Park.  The family requests casual dress – no coats.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, at Ashby Funeral Home.
