Howell 'H.A.' Steele

Howell “H.A.” Steele, 85, of Benton passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at his residence.  He was born in Benton on March 28, 1928 to the late H.A. Steele Sr. and Pearl Buffington Steele.
H.A. retired as president of the Hurricane Creek Federal Credit Union in October 2013.  He also retired from Reynolds and served as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
H.A. served on the board of directors for Saline Memorial Hospital from 1970 to 1978.  He was a member of the Optimist Club and Razorback Club. 
H.A. enjoyed spending time fishing, welding, working on shop projects and playing card games. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars. 
H.A. was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mickey Naylor and Harriet Beard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Patsy J. Smith Steele of Benton; three sons, Scott R. Steele and wife Glynis of Decatur, Ala., Mark P. Steele and wife Christy of Lonsdale, Dane W. Steele and wife Jerri of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Eulan Naylor of Little Rock; and a caregiver, Joyce Brothers. 
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Pinecrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Kim Hammer and minister Jim Gardner officiating.
Pallbearers are Lewis Greer, Ross Reeves, Jackie Homan, Charles Burks, Bob Wise and Melvin Wylie.  Honorary pallbearers are the board members of Hurricane Creek Federal Credit Union.  
A reception visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Smith Family Funeral Home, 322 N. Market St/ in Benton, 501-778-7100.
