Humane Society urges spaying, neutering of pets

June 20, 2014

John David the kitten

John David is one of 40 kittens the Humane Society of Saline County took in during one afternoon.

This kitten has been neutered, dewormed and given shots appropriate for this age, according to Ann Sanders, president of the society.

His adoption fee has been reduced to just $40, Sanders noted.

The Humane Society would like to encourage everyone to have their cats and dogs spayed or neutered, she said.

"It is currently kitten season and the shelters are full of kittens and puppies," Sanders said.

She noted that the society hosts low-cost spay-neuter clinics several times a month.

"It is only $40 to get a cat fixed and $50 to get a dog fixed," she said. "Just call the shelter at 501-557-5518 to make an appointment in one of the clinics."

Sanders pointed out that the Humane Society is the only private, nonprofit no-kill shelter in Saline County that operates strictly on donations.

Donations to help the animals being housed at the shelter may be mailed to Humane Society of Saline County, P.O. Box 305, Benton, AR 72018.

The shelter is located in Bauxite and is open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
