Jack Raymond Rhodes Jr. of Heber Springs, formerly of Benton, died Thursday, July 19.
He was born Aug. 18, 1945, in Warren to the late Jack R. Rhodes Sr. and Rita McClendon Rhodes. He grew up in Lake Village and graduated from Lakeside High School. Jack graduated from Hendrix College and attended the University Of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville. He was in the insurance industry for 42 years and was owner of Jack Rhodes Insurance in Heber Springs.
Jack was active in civic and governmental affairs including serving as president of the Heber Springs Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club of Heber Springs, where he had been named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Panther Booster Club and Thunderbird Country Club. He served on the Heber Springs Planning and Zoning Commission and the Civil Service Commission. He represented Cleburne County on the board of The Delta Health Systems Agency and was appointed by Gov. Bill Clinton to the Statewide Coordinating Council.
Jack had served as chairman of the board of directors of Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton and Cleburne Memorial Hospital in Heber Springs. He was chairman of the board of the Cleburne Health Foundation and a board member of the Community School of Cleburne County. He served as a board member of the Cleburne County Library System and also was president of The Old State House Museum Associates Board of Directors. He was a member of Arkansas Independent Insurance Agents Association and Red Apple Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dicey Jacobs Rhodes; a son, Brett Rhodes; two daughters, Anna Kathryn Morgan and husband Josh, all of Heber Springs, and Caroline Rhodes of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Gracie and Carley Morgan; his brother, Marty Rhodes and wife Tricia of Little Rock; and as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, at First United Methodist Church in Heber Springs. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery in Tull.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at First United Methodist Church in Heber Springs.
