James Vernon Statler, 82, of Atkins passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at his home.Â He was born Jan. 26, 1931, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., son of the late Carol Roscoe and Lottie Belle Casey Statler.
He was a Korean War veteran and a retired crane operator. He attended the Atkins Church of Christ.Â In recent years, he was a loving caregiver for his wife of 57 years, Carolyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carol Eugene Statler; and a sister, June Lee Arquette.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Brock Statler; a son, James Vernon II and wife Kim, all of Atkins; three daughters, Sheila Lemley and husband Tommy of Greenwood, Tracey Geren and husband Jeff of Fort Smith, and Shannon Haney and husband Phillip of Atkins; a brother, Buddy Statler; four sisters, Jewell Webb, Shirley Crosswhite, Rita Scroggins and Sarah Ramsey; 10 grandchildren, Matt Geren, Maggie Geren, Kaci Rood, Shelby Statler, Sarah Haney, Seth Haney, Samantha Rogers, Jennifer Lemley, James Lemley and John Lemley; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at Lemley Chapel with Neal Chism officiating.Â Burial with military honors by Rogers-Rye Post 2283 is scheduled at Atkins City Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is set from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are James Lemley, John Lemley, Matt Geren, Seth Haney, Preston Rood and Russell Statler.
