Jerry Dean McVay

Jerry Dean McVay of Durano, Colo. died of coronary heart disease Monday, May 23, 2011, at his home.  He was 60.
Mr. McVay was born August 24, 1950, to Gerald and Mildred McVay in Iowa. During his life he lived in Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, and Arkansas. He lived in Arkansas for 22 years before moving to Durango in April 2007.
He worked as a janitor at Walmart for more than a decade, first in Arkansas and then in Durango.
Mr. McVay liked to work in the yard and boating was a special passion. He enjoyed antique cars and trucks and liked to fix up old cars. Mr. McVay loved living in the Colorado mountains.
His family remembers that he was a very devoted son to his mother and father.
Mr. McVay is survived by his sons, Dustin McVay of Benton and Corey and Jeremy Powers of Iowa; and sisters Sharon K. Long and Jenny Boge, both of Humboldt, Iowa, and Linda S. Harmon and Charlotte Brustrom, both of Benton.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at New Prospect Baptist Church in Benton.
