John Charles McCown, Sr.

John Charles McCown Sr., 79, of Benton passed away Wednesday, July 11.  He was born March 17, 1933, in Little Rock to the late Earl Mitchell McCown Sr. and Edith Cutrell McCown.
A Korean War veteran, Mr. McCown served with the U.S. Marine Corps, earning the rank of staff sergeant. He also was a retired Army veteran, holding the rank of sergeant major. He also served in the Army National Guard, holding the rank of sergeant major.
He served as a patrolman for the Little Rock Police Department and was an officer for the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, which included the department's criminal investigation division.  Many of his loves included building and flying model airplanes, cooking and spending time with his family.                                                           
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Fay McCown; one son, John Charles McCown Jr.; two daughters, Susan Terrie Rumfield and husbandJason of Hot Springs and Kimberly Ann Deutscher and husband David; five grandchildren, Daren McCown, Dillion McCown, Danyelle McCown, Dalayna Cornwall, and Riley Allen; one sister, Carolyn Mays of Florida; two brothers, Alfred McCown of Little Rock and Earl McCown Jr. of Mississippi; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton (501-315-4047) with the Rev. Bill Howard officiating.  Burial with full military honors will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.
Scheduled to serve as pallbearers are Sheriff Bruce Pennington, Sandy Romeo, Mike Frost, Bill Fields, Mike Holt, and David Smith.  Honorary pallbearers are John McCown Jr., Daren McCown, Dillion McCown, and David Deutscher.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 13, at the funeral home.
