John Fred Chunn Sr.
John Fred Chunn Sr. of Benton passed from this life unto a better one at the age of 68 on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014.
Fred was an artist, master carpenter, eloquent calligraphist and a loving husband, dad, grandad, brother, uncle and friend. He retired from Dassault Falcon Jet in August 2011. He was born in Weatherford, Texas, on June 26, 1946.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nadine Halcombe Hixon of Arkadelphia and Curtis Wilson Chunn of Bridgeport, Texas.
Fred is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty. Also surviving are four children: a son, Bobby McAllister and wife Dee Dee of Benton and their children, Kierstin, Kolton and Jackie; a son, Danny Chunn of Dallas, Texas, and his daughter Abigail; a daughter, Sonya Buffington and fiancé Brian Deaton of Bryant and her children, Taylor, Bailey and Kenzie; a son, John Fred Chunn Jr. of Jacksonville and longtime family friend Jimmie Sue Smith, and his children, John Fred Chunn III and Madison; and one great-grandchild, Maddox Wohlschlager.
Also surviving Fred are three siblings, a brother, Curtis "Bill" Chunn and wife Carol of Haughton, La., and their daughter Aubrianne; a brother, Steve and wife Cheryl of Malvern; and a sister, Debra Chunn of Okolona.
Fred has many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives whom he cared for very much.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Pinecrest Memorial Park, 7401 Highway 5 in Alexander.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Highland Heights Baptist Church, 1421 Alcoa Road in Benton.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Fred Chunn has opened an account to assist with medical/final expenses and requests that memorial contributions be directed to the "Fred Chunn Memorial Fund" at the Bank of the Ozarks or www.cancerresearch.org in his honor.
