John R. Pittman, Sr.

John R. Pittman, Sr., 92, of Chidester, died Saturday, April 5, 2014.  He was born Sept. 13, 1921, in Mt. Vernon, Texas.
He was the son of Aaron Alexander Pittman and Pennie Mae Smallwood Pittman.  He was an Army Veteran of World War II (1942-1946).  He retired from Montsanta Chemical.  He loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, J. T., Aaron C. “Chuck”, James “Dub”, and Edward “Red” Pittman; two sisters, Violet Marie Pittman and Ruth Slaughter; three sons, John “Junior”, Donald, and Larry Pittman; one granddaughter, Tina; one step-granddaughter, Tabatha, and her twin brother, Tony Hodges; and one stepson, Randy Padgett.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Pittman of Chidester; three sons, Raymond Pittman and wife Dianne of Bryant, Billy Pittman and wife Tanya of El Dorado, Danny Pittman and wife Donna of Eustace, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one stepson, Spike Dietrich of Telluride, Colo.; five step-grandchildren; two sister, Evy Harris of Texas City, Texas, and Mary Lou Dean of El Dorado; and one brother, Jerry Pittman of Smackover.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, followed by a 1 p.m. graveside services at Holleman Cemetery. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
