Jr. Ladies win 1st conf. match

CABOT – The Benton Junior Lady Panther volleyball team went to Cabot to play the South team and came away with their first conference victory of the season on Monday night. Benton beat Cabot South in close sets, losing the first 25-27 before taking the next two 25-18 and 15-13.
It was the Jr. Lady Panthers' first close win of the year and Benton's first three-set win. Emme Edmondson had eight kills, Lenzie Newman seven and Sydney Channel had five for a well-rounded attack. 
"Maggie Carson had a fantastic match from the back row digging and passing in serve receive," Benton Coach Michelle Shoppach said.
The eighth-grade Lady Panthers also defeated Cabot but in straight sets, 25-14 and 25-19. Emma Carter had six kills and Lacey Jumper had 12 aces, with Ryleah Brimhall following with five aces. 
"In the second match, the Lady Panthers once again served the Cabot Panthers out of the gym with17 aces," Shoppach said. Grace Bryant  had six aces to lead the team.
Over the weekend, the eighth- and ninth-graders played at a tournament in Conway. The ninth grade went 3-0 in its pool play with wins over Mountain Home, Greenbrier and Beebe, winning all six sets the Lady Panthers played to take first out of their pool. Benton played North Little Rock in the Gold Bracket and lost in two sets, 12-25 and 24-26.
The eighth grade finished third in its pool, advancing to the Silver Bracket and winning its first match with Maumelle before falling to Mountain Home in the semifinals.
Benton will take on Bryant tonight in Benton. The eighth grade begins at 4:30 with ninth to follow.
