October 5, 2011

The Bryant Lady Hornets, shown here against Mount St. Mary, swept the Cabot Lady Panthers 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-17) Tuesday night.

The Bryant Lady Hornets volleyball team swept the Cabot Lady Panthers 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-17) in 7A Central conference action on Tuesday night in Cabot. The Lady Hornets won their fifth consecutive conference match and improved to 9-3 overall with an 8-2 record in conference, good for second place behind Conway.
“We’ve got another win under us,” Bryant Coach Beth Solomon said. “The girls played well tonight, but not as well as we could have.
“I think they were confident they would win tonight so they didn’t come out and play as hard as they should have.”
The Lady Panthers made it a close game in the first set, but the Lady Hornets came out on top.
“We almost screwed around and lost the first game,” Solomon said. “Each game got better, but I still don’t feel that we played as well as we should have.”
Bryant junior Alyssa Anderson had a perfect match as she was 19 of 19 on serves including three aces, and 19 of 19 on hits, leading the team with nine kills.
The Lady Hornets missed only two serves all night for a 97 percent clip, and had six aces. It was Bryant’s best serving match of the year.
Anderson led the team in kills, but the kills were distributed evenly as junior McKenzie Rice and senior Peyton Thacker had seven kills apiece, senior Brianna White had five kills, and junior Brook Howell had three.
Junior Hannah Rice led the team with 25 assists and added seven digs, and senior Lauren Reed had 10 digs to lead the Lady Hornets. Junior Rochelle Aguilar had six digs, senior Taylor West had five digs and Thacker had four.
Bryant’s JV team also swept Cabot’s JV 2-0 (25-16, 25-19). Sophomore Aubree Allen led the team with 10 kills followed by junior Courtney Davidson’s six. Junior Carley Choate had 11 assists to lead the JV Lady Hornets and her sister, sophomore Caylin Choate, had eight digs for the team lead. Davidson also had four aces to lead the team.
The Lady Hornets play their last home game of the season on Thursday against Russellville. It will be Bryant’s senior night. The 10th grade team will start at 4:30, followed by JV and then a senior night presentation. The varsity game will follow.
