Lady Miners headed to regionals
MALVERN – In two must-win games, the Bauxite Lady Miners punched their ticket to a 4A Regionals berth on Friday when they defeated the Robinson Senators 16-6 and the Central Arkansas Christian Lady Mustangs 11-3 at the 7-4A District Tournament in Malvern. The Lady Miners played Nashville, which Bauxite lost to 13-1 on April 25, in the semifinal game on Saturday with results in Monday’s edition.
“We’re in the Regional for sure now,” Bauxite Coach Sara Tew said. “It’s just a matter of where. If we beat Nashville, we’ll be a 1 or 2 seed.”
It was pitching, hitting and defense that got the Lady Miners (11-8) the wins to make it to a regional.
“Everyone did just an amazing job,” Tew said. “Sarah Levart pitched both games. The best hitting performance of the day goes to Sydney Wingate. She had a really good day hitting.”
Wingate went 4 for 4 in the Robinson game and 3 for 4 vs. CAC with a total of seven RBI on the day.
“Defensively, Jacie Cooper did a great job,” Tew said. “She played shortstop and made a lot of plays. A lot of plays that saved us.”
“I think their mental focus is changing,” Tew said of her players’ district success. “We’ve always had it physically, but we’re not always there mentally. Everybody just clicked [Friday]. They were prepared to be there and prepared to win those two games. Mental focus was the definite change.”
