Lady Yellowjackets defeat Pine Bluff in five
The Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets defeated Pine Bluff 13-3 Friday night, scoring two in the first, three in the second and seven in the fifth. Pine Bluff scored two runs in the first and one in the third.
Hannah Hicks pitched three and 1/3 innings, allowing six hits with six strikeouts and four walks. Sydney Bonner pitched an inning and 2/3 of relief but did not allow a hit or a walk.
In the first inning, Hannah Hicks led off with a walk and Lauren Sweeten reached on an error. Jordan Jones singled for a RBI and Allison Stipes tallied a RBI on a fielder’s choice.
Pine Bluff scored after three consecutive doubles but Sheridan got out of the inning with a couple of strikeouts.
In the second, Sara Weatherford hit a home run to lead off the inning. Two runs would later score on an error and give the Lady ‘Jackets a 5-2 lead.
Pine Bluff led off the next inning with a walk and a base hit. A second hit scored one more run to cut the deficit to two runs.
Mycah Love singled home a run in the third to make it 6-3.
Lauren Sweeten hit a two-run double as part of a seven run fifth inning. Allison Stipes drove in a run and Hunter Clark hit a inside the park home run to plate two more runs. Katelyn Jones walked and later scored in the inning.
Love was 2-4 with two runs and a RBI. Hicks had two walks and two runs scored. Sweeten had two RBIs and Jordan Jones was 2-4 with two RBIs. Stipes was 2-4, with a RBI and a run scored.
Hunter Clark was 1-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Katelyn Jones was 1-3 with two runs scored. Sara Weatherford was 3-4 with a double, home run and a run scored. She also had two RBIs.
Sheridan improves to 21-2 (12-1 6A South) and was scheduled to play North Little Rock, but the game was canceled. They will play Dumas at home on Tuesday and play Texarkana Friday at home.
If Sheridan wins Friday, it will guarantee a No. 1 seed in the state tournament.
In the junior varsity game, Sheridan won 9-0. Hannah Kilbourn struck out four and walked one and didn’t allow a hit in three innings. Morgan White scored two runs.
