Benton lost a heartbreaker Friday night, going down to Lake Hamilton 5-4 in 10 innings.
After trailing 4-0, Benton was able to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning, where the score would remain until the bottom of the 10th.
After a walk, sacrifice bunt and second walk, the Wolves singled to score the winning run despite the efforts of outfielder Levon Steward, who “made a great play on the ball and nearly threw him out at the plate,” head coach Mark Balisterri said.
Ashton Roberts led off the fourth inning with a double, and Joseph Henry followed with a walk. A single by Stuart Levy loaded the bases, and an error by Lake Hamilton allowed Carson Holloway to reach first and Roberts and Henry to score, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
Taylor Schmidt’s one-out single scored Levy and Holloway to tie the game.
Benton starter Garrison Roy faced 11 batters and gave up four runs on one hit with three walks. He had 47 pitches on the night.
Colton Lee came in the game in the second inning and would pitch 7 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits and no walks. He threw 84 pitches and had seven strikeouts.
“He threw unbelievably,” Balisterri said.
Holloway would pitch the final two innings, facing seven batters with two walks and the earned run.
Benton had six hits.
The Panthers will play at home at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Central Arkansas Invitational, which is hosted by Benton and Little Rock Catholic.
