Lawrence Kenyon "Slick" Dawson, 84, of Bryant passed away on Sunday, Oct. 16, at SMH Hospice House of Bryant.Â He was born June 12, 1927, to William Thomas and Florence Emily Hulsey Dawson in Traskwood.
Mr. Dawson retired from Reynolds Metals Co. after 37 years of service.Â He was a of the Missionary Baptist faith and had served as a deacon, a Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He was a 32nd-degree Mason, a member of the Scimitar Shrine Temple and the Scottish Rite organization.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas and Florence Emily Dawson; three brothers, Blann Dawson, Donald Dawson and Dale Dawson; and a stepson, Mike Scoggins.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Jenkins Dawson; adaughter, Beverly Duncan and husband Butch of Batesville; a son, Danny Dawson and wife Melanie of Benton; a daughter, Cindy Frazier and husband Mark of Benton; a son, Paul Dawson and wife Linda of Malvern; a stepdaughter, Sandy Scoggins of Bryant; and two stepsons, Steve Scoggins of Alexander and David Scoggins of Malvern.
Other survivors are grandchildren, Brad Boyd of Batesville, Kevin Frazier and wife, Amy of Benton, Blake Frazier and wife Andrea of Maumelle, Rebecca Scott and husband Bert of Longview, Texas, Chad Dawson of Benton, Paige Dawson of Malvern, Sam Dawson of Malvern, James Scoggins of Bryant, Rhonda Tanner of Bryant, Clint Scoggins of Tyler, Texas, Joe Scoggins of Malvern, Jason Scoggins of Benton, Lori Edgin of Russellville and Shelley Elton and husband Spencer of Lonsdale; and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his canine companion, Booger. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Ashby Funeral Home with the Rev. Kim Hammer officiating. Burial will follow at Fairplay Cemetery.Â Â
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 17, at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton.
Pallbearers are Mark Dawson, Will Dawson, Jerry Dawson, Jamey Blakley, Phillip Mask and Spencer Elton. C.M. Lewallen will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Memorials may be made to a local Humane Society or SMH Hospice House of Bryant.Â
