Lois Elizabeth Elmore Clayton

Lois Elizabeth Elmore Clayton, 100, died Monday, Feb. 13. Mrs. Clayton was born Oct. 19, 1911, in Magnolia. She was the youngest of eight children born to Dr. and Mrs. A.B. Elmore.
She graduated from high school and college in Magnolia. She taught tap dancing and expression and for many years she was an elementary school teacher. She married her childhood sweetheart, John Ralph Clayton, on June 12, 1933. Together, they shared over 50 years in the Methodist ministry in Arkansas. Mrs. Clayton served in many capacities, including children’s education and music ministry. She was the consummate hostess and a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. J. Ralph Clayton; and a grandson, John Michael Clayton.
She is survived by her children, the Rev. Mike Clayton and wife Ann of Benton and Anna Carolyn Bradley and husband Bob of Little Rock; grandchildren, Dr. Rob Bradley and wife Christy, Greg Bradley and wife Patti, Neil Bradley and wife Mary, Shelley Gentry and husband Brooks, and Beth Clayton and wife Patricia; and great-grandchildren, Justin Bradley, Jessica Bradley, Rebecca Bradley, Tyler Bradley, Alex Bradley, Victoria Bradley, Clayton Gentry and Sterling Gentry.
A celebration of Mrs. Clayton's life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 11 a.m on Thursday, Feb. 16. A private interment will precede the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1101 N. Mississippi St., Little Rock, AR 72207, or to a charity of choice.
