Man charged with burglary for break-in at local church

July 11, 2014

Michael Lyn Jones, 46, of Little Rock

A Little Rock man has been charged with commercial burglary in conjunction with a burglary early Thursday morning at Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene.

Michael Lyn Jones, 46, is charged with commercial burglary and breaking or entering.

Saline County deputies received a report of the break-in at the church via a security system. When an officer arrived at the scene, he observed a man, later identified as Jones, climbing out a broken window of the church, said Lt. Scott Courtney, spokesperson for the Saline County Sheriff's Office.

Jones did not take anything from the church, Courtney said.

According to the incident report, Jones told the investigating officer, "I messed up, Officer. I should not have messed with the Lord's house."

Jones also told officers that he recently was released from prison for prior burglary charges and was currently staying in housing provided by the American Red Cross, according to the incident report.

As of press time, he was still being detained at the Saline County Detention Center. No bond had been set.
