Mary Beth Davenport Herlein, 84, of Harrison, Ark., passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 2, 2013, in Harrison. Beth was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Grant County to the late Joseph Beecher and the late Willie Brad Davenport of Benton.
She was a 1946 graduate of Benton High School and attended Arkansas Tech University, where she was a cheerleader for the Wonder Boys. There she met her late husband, Philip Charles "Duke" Herlein Jr. They were married in January 1947, and moved to Helena.
Beth served as secretary-treasurer of Helena Electric Co. Inc., her husband's company. She was a former member of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, serving as the organization's national treasure. She was a three-time president of the Helena County Club Ladies Golf Association and an avid Mahjong player.
She was a member of Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Harrison.
She is survived by three daughters, Phyllis "Philly" Rains of Harrison, Peggy Sims and husband Jim of Blytheville, Mary Beth Dyer and husband Everett of Clarendon; one son, Philip Charles "Chuck" Herlein III., of Marion; seven grandchildren and nine great-grand children; and one sister, Joan Hopkins of Benton.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at Roller Citizens Funeral Home in Helena/West Helena. A private burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. An open reception will follow the memorial service at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Helena.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Helena, Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, Harrison, or the Humane Society of the Delta, Helena/West Helena.Â
