Mary Frances Sims, 80, of Benton died Saturday Oct. 1, at her home. She was born March 8, 1931, to Mary and Avery Martin in Austin.
Mary Frances went through Little Rock Public Schools, graduating from Little Rock High School in 1948. She graduated from Little Rock Junior College in 1950. She was a member of Zeta Phi Sorority at UALR and sang in the college a cappella choir.
After graduating from UALR, she married Samuel Richard Sims Jr. They have been married for 60 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Linda Kimball and husband Kirk of North Little Rock; a son, Martin Sims and wife Jeannie; grandchildren, Cara Sims Dyer and husband David, Conley Sims and wife Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Layton Dickerson, Kaley Dyer and Caroline Jace Dyer.
Mary Frances retired from Arkansas Teacher Retirement as manager of benefits and the counseling department. When her children were growing up, she was a long-standing member of Parkview United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, a choir member and a member of the church board.
She was a member of the original Benton Bridge Club and enjoyed cooking, working in her backyard, reading, working crossword puzzles and traveling and had a love for dogs. While her children were younger, before working for Teacher Retirement, she was an Avon representative for several years.
Â Mary Frances was a longtime members of First United Methodist Church of Benton, where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class and the church's senior choir..
A memorial service will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Ashby Funeral Home with the Rev. David Jones officiating..
