McClendon's rallies to defeat Sylvan Hills

Benton McClendon's Appliance Senior Legion baseball team scored eight runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Sylvan Hills 16-12 Saturday afternoon.
In the eighth, Gene Dunkin led off with a single and Briar Sample reached on a walk. Colton Welch singled and Jacob Keeney followed with a two-run double.
Both Levon Steward and Austin Hicks hit RBI singles. Matt Frelin hit an RBI single, and Dunkin hit a two-run home run to give McClendon's a two-run lead.
McClendon's scored a run in the first, one in the third, six in the fourth and two in the seventh thanks to 20 hits as a team. Sylvan Hills scored three runs in the first, four in the second, two in the fourth and three in the eighth.
In the first, Dunkin hit a triple and later scored on an error. In the third, Sample singled, Welch reached on an error and Keeney hit an RBI single.
In the fourth, Hicks tripled, Ryan Besancon plated him with an RBI single and Dunkin followed with a run-scoring single. Sample and Welch both singled and Keeney hit an RBI single. Chase Southworth hit an RBI single to close out the six-run inning.
In the seventh, Welch and Steward led off with a pair of singles. Besancon singled to score McClendon's second run of the inning.
Dunkin was 4-6 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs. Sample was 2-5 with two RBIs, Welch was 3-5 with an RBI and Keeney was 3-5 with a double and three RBIs.
Southworth was 1-4 with an RBI, and Hicks was 4-4 with a triple and an RBI.
Besancon was 2-4 with two RBIs, and Frelin had a hit and an RBI.
In Saturday's second game, Hot Springs Village defeated McClendon's Appliance 4-3. McClendon's scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Hot Springs Village scored a run in the first, a run in the second and one in the sixth and seventh innings. McClendon's had five hits and two errors, and HSV had seven hits and one error.
In the fourth inning, Southworth hit a two-run home run, scoring Welch who reached on a single.
Southworth also pitched three innings, allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts, three walks and a hit batter. Besancon pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits.
Coy Fitzhugh pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts and a walk.
McClendon's will play at 8 p.m. today at UALR against Little Rock Express.
