Melvin Wilkins, 88, of Bryant passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014. He was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Sugar Grove.
Melvin was a member of First United Methodist Church in Benton. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European Theater of operations. He held the rank of private first class upon his discharge.
Melvin retired from Reynolds Metals Co. after 36 years in the instrument department and thoroughly enjoyed 29 years of retirement that followed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Pearl Wilkins; his sisters, Syble Smith, Mae Organ and Verneda Craig; his brothers, Owen Wilkins and Charles Henry Wilkins; and a grandson, Matthew Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janie Wilkins of Bryant; his children, Mary Jane and Don Dove of Bryant and Maggie and Jim Taylor of Amarillo, Texas; his brothers, John Paul Wilkins and M.L. Wilkins, and a sister, Mary Alice Khilling, all of Magazine; and his granddaughters, Claire Taylor of New York City and Paige Taylor of Lubbock, Texas.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at First United Methodist Church in Benton with the Rev. Victor Green officiating. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Visitation is set from 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 11, at Ashby Funeral Home.Â
