Miners make history, dominate field

JESSIEVILLE – The Bauxite Miners won their first-ever overall team track meet in the Senior High Lion Relays on Thursday in Jessieville. The Miners blistered the field scoring 129 points, outdistancing second-place Caddo Hills (80.5) by almost 50 points. The Lady Miners tied with Caddo Hills for third at the meet with 66 points, behind first-place Jessieville (125) and second-place Magnet Cove (81).
For the boys, the team of Falon Barnett, Blaze Vinyard, DJ Watson and Dominque Watson took first in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. In the 4x100, Bauxite finished in 45.82 and edged Episcopal by a second and a half, finishing in 3:48.33.
The 4x800 relay team of Jonathan Parsons, Josh Sorvillo, Zach Jones and Brian Flores finished second with a time of 9:08.03, just under four seconds behind Episcopal.
Vinyard, a sophomore, took the high-point honors for the meet, finishing with 49 points. He took first in the 400 with a time of 53.14, edging Episcopal’s Erbie Jennings by less than a second. Vinyard placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 39’5.5”, and third place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.86, trailing teammate Barnett, who took second at 11.78.
Flores finished first in the 800 with a time of 2:13.81 and Grant Wilcox took first in the 110m hurdles at 17.03. Wilcox also finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 38’8.5”. Matt Bentley took second in the 300m hurdles in a time of 47.05, and also took fourth in the 110m hurdles in a time of 19.10.
Other Miners scoring include Zach Jones - fifth in 1600 at 5:37.65; Josh Sorvillo - fifth in 800 at 2:20.17; Zack Baxley - seventh in 800 at 2:30.29; Dominique Watson - sixth in 200 at 25.04; DJ Watson - seventh in 200 at 25.26; Mason Brown - sixth in 300m hurdles at 49.52; Branson Wilkinson - fifth in the discus throw in a distance of 107’0”; Jonathan Parsons - sixth in 400 in 57.16.
For the Lady Miners, the 4x400 relay team of Cami Lambert, Abbey Bradbury, Haley Hammons and Hannah Wills took first with a time of 4:34.49, five seconds ahead of Sylvan Hills. Jasmin Ortega, Bradbury, Wills and Lexi Wells would also take first in the 4x800, dominating in a time of 11:11.05. Second place Acorn was second in 11:35.61.
Holly Willmon took second in the shot put with a distance of 29’10.5”, and Faby Mendoza was fourth in the discus with a distance of 83’8”.
In the 4x100 relay, the foursome of Angel Blacklaw, Mollie Jo Minnie, Haley Hammons and Lexi Wells finished third in a time of 55.15. Bradbury would finish second in the 800 in a time of 2:43.72, with Wells coming in fifth in 2:53.77.
Others scoring for the Lady Miners were Alexis Hammons - eighth in 100 hurdles in 19.40; Taylor McDaniel - fifth in 300 hurdles in 57.50; Haley Hammons - sixth in long jump with a distance of 15’0.75”; Aubrey Wilhite - eighth in 1600 in 6:45.12.
