New Sheriff makes personnel changes

October 2, 2013

Cleve Barfield is sworn in as the new Saline County Sheriff at 12:01 a.m. on Oct. 1 by Judge Gary Arnold.

Before Sheriff Cleve Barfield began his official duties on Tuesday, he was already making personnel changes.
Effective Oct. 1, on Barfield's first day in office, the personnel roster no longer included Chief Deputy Bill Field and administrative secretary Mistie Oswalt.
"They were not retained," Barfield said Wednesday in response to inquires.
He has not named a new chief deputy.
"I haven't put anybody in there yet," he said, "but maybe I will in the next few days.
Barfield gave no reasons for the personnel moves, but said he is beginning to conduct inventories and to review departmental policies.
"Everything is going well," he added.
