Opal Lucille McCormick

February 4, 2014

Opal Lucille McCormick, 64, of Lonsdale, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014.  She was born December 27, 1949 in Star City. Mama was always ready to help her family and friends anyway she could.  She would do anything to put a smile on your face, especially break into one of her jigs as we called them.  Anyone that knew Mama, knew she loved to cut up.  She was one of the best mothers that we could have ever wanted and she will be greatly missed, but as she would say:  Don’t mourn me but rather rejoice because I am going home to be with my savior and all my family and friends who have gone before me.  She wouldn’t want people to be sad, she’d want everyone to remember the good times.
Mrs. McCormick was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry McCormick; her parents, Lonnie and Opal Lunsford and her baby sister, Yvonne Shipp.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Yarbero and husband James and Billie Whitehead and husband Greg; step-daughter, Bethany McCormick; step-son, Brian McCormick; five grandchildren, Dustin Sparks, Danielle Browning, Sean LaMere, Jacob Browning and Aaron Whitehead; seven great-grandchildren, Destiny, Keegan and Colson Sparks and Walter, Wesley, Wyatt and Stevie Browning; six step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Chaney and husband James; brother, Johnny Lunsford and wife Carol and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6 at Benton Four Square Church on the corner of Military and Thomas Road.
